The Celtic Englishes

The Celtic Englishes III - September 2001

Discussants and Guests

The third Colloquium on the "Celtic Englishes" at the University of Potsdam (Germany) took place from 20-23 September 2001. Its title was "The Celtic Englishes: Interdiscipliniary Aproaches".

A three year span is left between the Colloquia for old ideas to germinate and for new ideas to develop. As the years 1999 and 2000 saw the publication of two major books on Irish English (the grammar by Markku Filppula and the dictionary by Terence Dolan), it was expected that these would be instrumental in linguistic consciousness raising. It was also expected that the attitudes of the general public towards the Celtic Englishes as well as their language awareness would improve. Similar effects took place after the publication of comparable works in Australia.

We had 20 speakers and papers and one poster presentation. The audience consisted of invited discussants and a number of guests, that we already saw at the previous colloquia.

As for the philosophy of the CE Colloquia, please click here. The style sheet can be downloaded in English or German.

The Proceedings were published in 2003, Universitätsverlag Winter, Heidelberg, ISBN 3-8253-1241-0.
